Auction fraud refers to the people that are scammed when they try to buy something online, trough an auction site. Some sites/companies well know are eBay, AutoTrader, Craigslist, Cars where people sell and buy a big variety of objects from tickets to cars, planes or boats. Among the millions and millions of people who use the services of auction sites can be found too bad people who intend to steal your money. In general they post fake ads with stolen credit cards and then wait. Because they “sell” the item with 50%-70% of the real price their listings will get many interested buyers. From them 1-5 or maybe none will be scammed and will lose the money. Some of this fraudulent listings have a similiar type. The seller of the item is overseas and he needs to sell very fast because he needs money to buy a new car or for a relative who is sick. 90% of them speaks with only through e-mail because they can’t speak by phone or face to face. After the buyer is convinced to buy the fake item, you will receive a invoice from a big company which will tell you where and how to send the money. THE INVOICE IS FAKE SEND BY THE FAKE SELLER. You must remember that no company intermediate transactions between seller and buyer, except the escrow sites. Be aware because the fraudsters use fake escrow and shipping sites that look exact the same with the real ones. So in order to avoid such type of fraud: ask the seller many questions and details that he can’t find it on the web, ask specifications of the item, ask to view real pictures, ask the reason of the selling, try to contact him by phone or face to face, try to deal locally, make sure that you will use legit escrow/shipping sites, be careful.

Credit card fraud is the biggest and the most widespread off all kind of frauds. In general, the people who need this type of information (your credit card information or your banking account information), are well trained to steal. The credit card information is stolen from you through fake e-mails that redirect you to scams and fake websites. The e-mails you’ll get will be “pretty legitimate” like: from your bank, PayPal, eBay or any financial institution. If the e-mail asks for your personal information through a “legitimate site” be sure that is scam. In the following word I will show you some tips how the avoid credit card fraud.
First of all install a phishing filter to your browser. This will reduce by 50% your chances to be hijacked (the filters doesn’t protect you 100% because every second new scams are rising on the web and nobody reported it; you can be the first who will report it). You must be sure that you are in a legitimate site and for this reason is recommended to type the site address in your web browser by your own and don’t click the links from the spam e-mails. Once again, you must remember that nobody will ask you your credit card information.

Also the credit card fraud can be related with legitimate sites because hackers can find one little bug of the site and with some programs and luck they will enter in the database where is stored the customers personal information. Even if the sites shouldn’t keep credit card information on database, most of them are keeping it. (You can say: Yes sure, but the information is encrypted. Yes it is, but they can crack it, so is best to prevent fraud then to try to fight it).

Credit card fraud can be related also with the fake ATMs. The best method to be protected is to cover the keyboard with your hand when you enter your PIN. Also if the keyboard hasn’t a 5 (five) key with a little point relief that ATM is fake and you better go out of there and report it to the bank or to the police.

There are many methods to avoid and to prevent credit card fraud, but one is the most important and effective: BE VERY VERY careful to the details that make a difference and that could save your personal information, your money and you from a bad situation.
