I was just a victim of a scam from danaowen1@gmail.com. I thought I was getting the most amazing deal for this car and now I am out $3,000. Wish I had found this site before sending the money. Her e-mails to me were almost identical to most of the e-mails already posted (ie. single mother, just moved, etc.) sounded very legit. Anyway I contacted ebay with the e-mail that I received from their “agent” and it was confirmed that I had been scammed. Good luck to everyone else out there.

Came across and ad on craigslist for a 2006 Lexus IS350 at $4990. I sent an email to the seller, who claims to be a Sgt in the Air Force stationed in the UK. He has photos posted on photobucket.com which shows an immaculate vehicle. When i asked why he is selling it for so low, he told me to help pay for his sister’s medical bills. Then he goes on to tell me that after providing my name and address, he will start the transaction through EBAY. He told me that he will take care of shipping from the UK using military transport on an Air Force Cargo plane. He says if I am not satisfied then I will be protected by Ebay and I have 5 days to decide. If I reject the car then the seller will handle shipping it back to him. After doing research online, I came across an identical e-mail listed on http://www.avoid-fraud.com

The ad was for some web development work. They claimed to want a website for a company they called “Mountain Group Suppliers” which, so far as we can tell, doesn’t exist, in Astoria, NY or anywhere else.
They would have been hoist by their own petard, too, as we would have had to wait for their check to clear before sending anything anyway: we just don’t have the money to reimburse their “overpayment”.
Needless to say, we’ve filed a complaint with the authorities.

My husband and I hvae been conversing via email with this “carol.cooper2007@msn.com” for a few days now, and then I decided to google the email and found your website. I am certain whoever owns that email address is trying to scam us, but how can we be sure? We double checked the VIN they supplied to us, and it lines up. They also offered to set up the transaction through Ebay, so I was feeling more secure about doing the transaction because of that.
In any event, how can we know for sure this is a scam?? I guess everyone should be on the lookout for this email: carol.cooper2007@msn.com. Selling a 2007 Range Rover for $18,300.

I am about to do a web page for these people Tatrina Johnsons and Roy Hanting of \Mountain Group Suppliers (MGS)\ and the email sounds really iffy- grammatical errors, promising to send a check before they even meet me, or call- email contact only. I don”t know if I should proceed with this \deal\. I found them on craigslist wanting a web design. Then when I started to feel uncomfortable, I searched the name and first thing that popped up was a fraud prevention site.
I sent an email telling them to do paypal instead of a check, So I’m still awaiting a response email, then I’ll know for sure, but I’m 99% sure this is a scam. They are trying to mail me a check wanting my address and info.

Link if you click on my name to the fraud posting of Carol Cooper. She sends you screenshots of a CarFax report, and says she wants the money cash and soon because she has a mortgage payment deadline to meet. Just FYI. Seriously though people… This car is on kbb.com for $40,000 in the worst condition possible, if that person REALLY wanted to get rid of it, they would go to their nearest Carfax and get at least $20,000 if they wanted to. Be careful out there.
Tatrina Johnson contacted me, i knew it had to be some kind of scam – but I played along. I got a check from a web development company in Tampa Fla, but the envelope was mailed from DeerPark TX – Doing a google search on the web company got me to a bonafide website (like they are hard to come by) but no good WHOIS info . The site diod have a contact page with a phone number. The guy (supposed business owner) answers the phone as if he just woke up at 2:00pm, with “umm…what?”
I spoke with my bank who said it’s a valid check account and routing number, but could not provide any more info. I deposited the thing and we will wait and see. I clarified with the bank that I was not sure if the check was good or not, and they told me there would be no legal ramifications if it wasn’t.

The woman/man is using real names from people living in Henderson, NV, I searched the name she gave me Amber Fisher, and then I saw the one here Carol Cooper whom also happens to exist- thank you white pages! I can’t believe I almost fell for this!

I decided to make this transaction through eBay because I believe this protects both buyer and seller and it’s the right way to do the sale. You send the money to eBay and they hold the payment until the car is delivered. You have 7 days to inspect the car and the documents. I get the money after you check the car and make sure everything is as agreed.
If the car is not as described and you want to return it, I will arrange to ship it back (on my costs) and you will be 100% refunded by ebay. I’m sure you will love the car and will not want to return it but it’s good to know that you have this option available.
If you have the funds available and want to buy the car, I need your full name and the delivery address to inform ebay about this sale and receive the transaction details from them as soon as possible.

When asked how to pay he says I have to send Euro 2000 through western union in order to reserve it! When I reminded him that Western Union is untraceable payment he has remained silent. Anither gentleman called Robert Gado has been alluded to have participated in a Mini Cooper Internet scam.
