5 tips to see if a site is scam or fraud related

How do you know if a website is a scam? This site is real or it is a scam? Anyone has heard about this site, it is real? These questions are asked by normal people, on different sites and forums, because they want to know if  a site is secure or legit. If you access or you buy something from a unknown site or fake for sure you`ll lose your money and also your personal information will be exposed.

I will present you 5 methods that will help you to decide if a website is scam or fraud related.

1. Go to http://www.google.com and type the site address. For this example I’ll chose google.com
google1 As you see in the picture, after the first result are some links that google generates automatically. Those links are called site links and represent an authority site. If a site has such links 100% is a big, safe and legit site so your question has an answer: this site isn`t a scam, is a real one! Note: If a site hasn’t site links, doesn’t mean that a site is a scam.

2. Go to http://whois.domaintools.com and insert the domain address to find some information about the domain and the registrant.google2 As you can see this is the domain information for Google. When you look for another site you need to pay attention to registrant name. Why? In order to be a legit site, in most of the cases the domain should be registered to a company, not to a person. Also here you can find out where the site is hosted and by which company. So you can e-mail them to ask more details about the site.

3. Go here and run a test for your site http://www.siteadvisor.com/. With this tool you will find out if the site has spyware, spam, viruses and phishing.

4. Also here http://www.mywot.com/ you can check the website. This tool is pretty much like the one above, but with different algorithm.

5. Google the site. If you don’t find something related to point 1, then 100% will find some information about that site. If it is a scam you’ll find for sure some posts in a forum, or people that said that they have been scammed. So do your research on google in order to stay safe and to protect your personal information.

Hope this little tutorial will help you! Be safe
