Ecpat Fraud

Hi there, I used to work for ECPAT in bangkok a couple of years ago ( a little over a year). Recently ECPAT has been accused of fraud. I was always suspicious cause I remember from my days in Bangkok many strange episodes. I remember Mark Capaldi and Carmen Madrinan being very rude to the staff @ ECPAT. I also remember one of the financial officers at ECPAT asking me " What do we tell the donors your salary is ? ". What do we tell the donor what your salary is !!! I believe Carmen and Mark were stealing from the donors. I hope they close them down !!! I work for another NGO and they are good people to work for,and the money goes to the right place.

ECPAT FRAUD ? The management in ECPAT bangkok have a lot to answer for !!!

I think charities should be better regulated. General audits are best. I do not understand why those charity organizations do not have a regulatory body or
government branch to supervise the management. We need more transparency.

Hello Diamond ! Yes charities should have a general audit at least once per year. But don't forget that charity scammers would change costs on projects, produce false invoices (expecially in third world countries) and pay employees less than what they tell the donors. The donors cannot see what contract they give to an employee and what salary they agree on. Further more how can the donors make an enquiry for all invoices directly with the company that issued the invoice. You need to know that there is a lot of paperwork from this bureaucrats.For example when I worked for ECPAT in Bangkok We had about 4 meetings in a week to decide in what Hotel we were going to have an internal week-end training (each meeting lasting more than 2 hours) and we had to vote at the end. An absolute shame and a complete waist of donors and tax payers money. another unsound decision from the 2 musketeers, Mark Capaldi and Carmen Madrinan.

I guess people should be more honest and have more integrity! I wish you the best and you better forget about ECPAT. Move on an try to make a difference by yourself if you have to.

Hello Diamond, how are you? I should let go with ECPAT but I saw it again over the internet and I went down memory lane again. When I was working for the ECPAT's global network secretariat in Bangkok I witnessed many questionable events, mainly perpetrated by poor management decisions. For example, I remember them hiring a line manager that previously bankrupted another charity organization. I remember them being inflexible with the personnel, like asking someone to travel right after her father had a heart attack. Furthermore, they were saying that they were paying the taxes for me but never proved it to me. When I asked for their taxation number they refused to give it to me. At that point I understood that they were hiding something. Also one of their ex-members of the Board from the Philippines had allegedly pocketed 25k and was allowed to join ECPAT again. What annoys me is that in Bangkok they never appreciated all the great and honest people working for them, trying to make a difference working junior positions. Instead management was making life easy for seniors that were quite obviously milking the system.
