Be aware of auction fraud
Auction fraud refers to the people that are scammed when they try to buy something online, trough an auction site. Some sites/companies well know are eBay, AutoTrader, Craigslist, Cars where people sell and buy a big variety of objects from tickets to cars, planes or boats. Among the millions and millions of people who use the services of auction sites can be found too bad people who intend to steal your money. In general they post fake ads with stolen credit cards and then wait. Because they “sell” the item with 50%-70% of the real price their listings will get many interested buyers. From them 1-5 or maybe none will be scammed and will lose the money. Some of this fraudulent listings have a similiar type. The seller of the item is overseas and he needs to sell very fast because he needs money to buy a new car orĀ for a relative who is sick. 90% of them speaks with only through e-mail because they can’t speak by phone or face to face. After the buyer is convinced to buy the fake item, you will receive a invoice from a big company which will tell you where and how to send the money. THE INVOICE IS FAKE SEND BY THE FAKE SELLER. You must remember that no company intermediate transactions between seller and buyer, except the escrow sites. Be aware because the fraudsters use fake escrow and shipping sites that look exact the same with the real ones. So in order to avoid such type of fraud: ask the seller many questions and details that he can’t find it on the web, ask specifications of the item, ask to view real pictures, ask the reason of the selling, try to contact him by phone or face to face, try to deal locally, make sure that you will use legit escrow/shipping sites, be careful.
